The Great River School Board is responsible for governing Great River School and hiring the Head of School. It meets monthly to discuss issues directly affecting the school including policy and financial issues.  All board meeting materials can be found HERE.

Board Members
Teachers, parents/guardians and community members are elected annually to provide governance to the school.  Five of the 13 Board members are elected each year for three-year terms to ensure continuity and an overlap of experience and history of the organization.

Board elections take place at the spring Annual Meeting.

School Board Meetings
The GRS School board meets monthly from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Great River School.  All community members are invited to attend. The full board meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm. The Executive Committee generally meets the week before to set the agenda for the meeting.

Finances, Annual Reports and Strategic Plan
The main functions of the board include monitoring the financial health of the school and determining its future. The tools used for this purpose are the budget and the strategic plan. Each spring the staff and school director prepare and the board approves a budget for the next fiscal year, July 1 to June 30.

In June 2006, after a year’s work, the board passed the first strategic plan for Great River School outlining its growth and focus areas for the next 6 years. Each spring, this plan is reviewed and updated to ensure the direction for the school.

Annual Reports are filed are filed with the Department of Education to report the successes of the school.  The report includes test scores, financial data and other information related to the assessment of GRS.

Policies and Procedures

Board policies address issues that help the school run smoothly. Most student related policies are found in the Student Handbook.  Please refer to the Policies page of the website for more information about additional policies.

Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation
Bylaws describing the procedures and organizational rules for Great River School were originally adopted in May 2004. They were revised in 2007 and again in 2008. The Articles of Incorporation were also filed in 2004. These articles outline how the organization is structured.
