Great River Facts
We are a public charter Montessori junior
high and high school.
We are a non-profit organization.
We are located at 1326 Energy Park Drive in Saint Paul Minnesota.
For the 2005-06 school
year we will have 150 students in grades 7-11 and will add grade 12
in 2006-07.
Our Founder and Montessori Mentor is Dr. Lawrence Schaefer.*
Our Head of School is Aaron Drevlow.
We have a core staff of highly credentialed and skilled educators.
Many staff members have Montessori Training at either the Primary, Elementary ** or Adolescent *** level.
* Dr. Schaefer is a bold and
innovative educator and administrator. He is nationally and
internationally known and respected for his work in Montessori
education. He has started two other Montessori schools, each
are over 25 years old. One is Lake Country School of
Minneapolis that has a Montessori adolescent program over 20
years old and considered a model for adolescent Montessori
programs across the country.
** The Primary and Elementary
training is a year long, rigorous training in the Montessori
educational philosophy and practice.
*** The NAMTA (North American
Montessori Teachers Association) Adolescent training
is a six week, rigorous summer course that orients people to
the Montessori philosophy with regard to adolescents.
