Suggested Sequence
The following is a recommended course schedule for GRS students who are interested in pursuing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. If a student entering 9th grade wants to pursue the IB diploma beginning in 11th grade, the student should enroll in Spanish during 9th and 10th grade. Also, students considering the IB diploma should take physics or chemistry (if desired) during A2 as IB diploma candidates do not have time in their schedules to take these courses in A3.
Grade 9:
Core:
- A2 English Communications or Advanced Writing
- A2 Geography/World History or Government/Civics
- A2 Biology or Earth/Physical Science
- A2 Mathematics Geometry, Algebra or Algebra II
Electives:
- Beginning Spanish
- Music or Art if desired
- Chemistry or Physics (teacher permission required)
Grade 10
Core:
- A2 English Communications or Advanced Writing
- A2 Geography/World History or Government/Civics
- A2 Biology or Earth/Physical Science
- A2 Mathematics Geometry, Algebra or Algebra II
Electives:
- Intermediate Spanish
- Music or Art if desired
- Chemistry or Physics (teacher permission required)

Students must take 6 classes plus Theory of Knowledge to qualify for the IB Diploma. Three must be Standard Level (SL) and three Higher Level (HL).
Grade 11 (IB diploma sequence begins):
Group 1 IB English 11 Syllabus
Group 2 Spanish 1 – Standard Level
Group 3 History of the Americas Higher – Standard Level
Group 4 Environmental Systems and Societies – Standard Level Year 1
Group 5 Mathematics – choose one (consult with math teachers):
- IB Math Studies
- IB Math Standard Level 2 (for juniors who will take HL math senior year. Consult with Math teachers to make this decision.)
- IB Math Higher Level
Group 6 Visual Art, IB Music or IB Theatre (both SL and HL offered)
(Choose which course to study at Higher Level for third HL course for IB)
Theory of Knowledge (spring semester of junior year)
Grade 12 (second year of IB Diploma)
Group 1 English 12 Higher Level
Group 2 Spanish 2 Standard Level
Group 3 20th Century World History Higher Level
Group 4 Environmental Systems and Societies Standard Level Year 2
