Suggested Sequence

The following is a recommended course schedule for GRS students who are interested in pursuing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Students interested in pursuing the IB Diploma must have studied Spanish during 9th and 10th grade. Click here to download a Summer Reading List of highly recommended books. Students should read 3 or more of these books before they enter 11th grade.

Grade 9:
Core:
- A2 English World Literature or American Literature
- A2 Geography/World History or Government/Civics
- A2 Biology or Chemistry
- A2 Mathematics Geometry, Algebra or Algebra II

Electives:
- Beginning Spanish
- Music or Art if desired

Grade 10
Core:
- A2 English World Literature or American Literature
- A2 Geography/World History or Government/Civics
- A2 Biology or Chemistry
- A2 Mathematics Geometry, Algebra, Algebra II, IB Math SL2 (with teacher permission)

Electives:
- Intermediate Spanish
- Music or Art if desired

Students must study 6 IB courses plus Theory of Knowledge to qualify for the IB Diploma.  Two to three courses must be studied at the Standard Level (SL) and three or four at the Higher Level (HL).

Grade 11 (IB diploma sequence begins):
Group 1  IB English 11 Syllabus Higher Level Year 1

Group 3  History of the Americas Higher Level Year 1
Group 4  Environmental Systems and Societies – Standard Level or Physics SL/HL Year 1
Group 5 Mathematics – choose one (consult with math teachers):
-IB Math Standard Level 1 (for juniors who intend to take the SL math exam senior year. Consult with math teachers to make this decision.)
- IB Math Standard Level 2 (for juniors who will take HL math year 1 senior year. Consult with math teachers to make this decision.)
- IB Math Higher Level Year 1 (for juniors who took IB SL2 as sophomores. Consult with math teachers to make this decision.)
Group 6 Visual ArtIB Music or IB Theatre (both SL and HL offered)
