THE DIRECTOR POSITION

The qualifications for Director, as stated in the GRS by-laws are:

  • Having the ability and the inclination to support the mission statement of the school and to represent the entire School community, rather than a factional group or interest;
  • Having skills needed by the Board at the time of selection (e.g., marketing, finance, education, media communication, public relations, leadership, fundraising/development, etc), and
  • Having the commitment and the ability to attend a minimum of 80% of all Board meetings each year, commencing upon the beginning of the Director’s term.

The responsibilities of a Director, as stated in the GRS by-laws are:

  • Attend and participate in at least 80% of all Board meetings during their term; and
  • Serve as chair of a standing committee, or as an active member of one or more standing committee, including the Executive Committee.
  • Act in the best interest of the School, fully disclose all conflicts or potential conflicts on each matter and refrain from voting on such matters, and endeavor to make all decisions affecting the School in an informed manner.

The time commitment:

  • Monthly board meeting; regularly on the 3rd Wednesday of the month
  • Preparation time for reviewing meeting materials
  • Committee work, and monthly or quarterly committee meeting
  • A share of board representation at school events
  • Special projects and other assignments as needed.
