Key Experiences
“We cannot create observers by saying ‘observe,’ but by giving them the power and the means for this observation and these means are procured through education of the senses.” Dr. Maria Montessori
Key experiences, part of the ongoing curriculum at Great River School, help our young men and women develop themselves as individuals by practicing different forms of independence. Students are required to attend each experience, as they are an integral part of the school experience. Students who begin their Great River School experience in 7th grade and stay through graduation will attend 6 Key Experiences in junior high and 8 in senior high. Each experience builds on the last in a developmentally appropriate way, by fostering community, independence and leadership as well as exposing students to new people, places and events. Key Experiences also help students who join the school at other grades assimilate quickly into their level and the school.
All GRS families, friends and supporters are encouraged to make a donation to the GRS Annual Fund at a level they are comfortable to help make these experiences possible.
