College Related events at GRS

Throughout the fall, Great River School offers opportunities for students to talk to college admissions representatives, information about colleges and college fairs and assessments to help students prepare for college admission tests.

College Visits to GRS

We welcome representatives from many different colleges and universities. Students are encouraged to talk to the representatives to find out about their programs as they discern their next steps after high school.  All College visits will be held at the table in Sunny Hollow on the second floor.  Here is what is scheduled for the fall:

College Fairs

The following are great events to start to investigating colleges and making relationships with admissions staff.

Colleges that Change Lives
­ A Consortium of more than 40 small liberal arts colleges centered on teaching both academics and character.  Great River students apply to many of these colleges, including Kalamazoo, Knox, Lawrence, St. Olaf, Evergreen, Beloit, Reed, Antioch and many others. Representatives will be visiting the Twin Cities on Saturday, August 24th ­ 11:00am at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

National College Fair at Mpls Convention Center
September 24 & 25, 2013

Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 9:00 am –12:00 pm and 4:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 9 am – 12 pm

Performing and Visual Arts (PVA) College Fair
Monday, October 17, 2013 from 7 to 9 pm at Coffman Memorial Union at the University of MN in Minneapolis. For more information, visit the website.

College & Post Secondary School Options Fair at Groves Academy for students with Learning Disabilities or ADHD
Monday, September 23, 2013 from 6 - 8 pm -  
This college fair is designed exclusively for college-bound students who have learning disabilities or attention disorders.

College Preparatory Testing

October 2013 College Testing: In order to help students begin to become familiar with their skills and where they will need to continue to work on their skills, GRS will be holding college preparatory testing in October. Each test is designed to cover the academic areas colleges assess students in including Writing, Math and Critical Reading Skills.
The tests are  as follows:

PSAT – All 11th graders who wish to sign up (cost is $13 per student) (all who sign up will take the exam during the school day)
PLAN – All 10th graders (all will take the exam during the school day – mandatory)
EXPLORE – All 9th graders (all will take the exam during the school day – mandatory)
