Lower Adolescent

PEG Earth Day Event This Friday

Celebrate Earth Day by helping to clean up and improve Great River School’s campus on Friday, April 22nd!

There are a variety of fun tasks to choose from organized with suggested classroom signup (but feel free to sign up for what interests you). Chopping wood, spreading new mulch, sanding outdoor blocks, painting octagon chairs, putting a new trail in, and more - there is something for everyone at every age.

We'll start as early as 8:30am and you can work as long as you like. The 'Eggroll Queen' food truck will be there to purchase rice bowls and egg rolls (or you can bring your own lunch).

A 'gear swap' will happen throughout the day where you can swap items, leave items to donate and/or grab items for your household. All lost and found items will be up for grabs to anyone as well!

Free Virtual AmeriCorps Tutoring This Summer

Reading Corps and Math Corps will be offering a free, virtual tutoring program in summer 2022. In this unique summer program, AmeriCorps members will be trained in data-driven, evidence-based tutoring models to provide virtual support to students to help them prepare for the 2022-23 school year.

It will be offered for Kindergarten-3rd (Reading or Math); Grades 4-8 (Math) – based on the 2021-22 school year grade level.

If your student is currently working with Erik or Jen in reading or Nicole or Alexander in math interventions, this is a good opportunity for summer support. If you are interested, fill out this family inquiry form or go to this website, both provided by AmeriCorps.

We suggest you get your initial request in as soon as possible! More details will come directly from AmeriCorps after that.

Seeking Wine Donations for the Blue Heron Bash

Blue Heron Bash organizers are still seeking ~30 bottles for the wine pull! Please consider donating one or more bottles of wine in the $20 range for the fundraiser.

You may drop off the wine donations with Holly at the front desk. If you have a large donation, text or call Jennie Hardman (218-213-7476) and she can come pick up from you!

From Ivanna Pavliuk, EL Coordinator and UA Educational Assistant:

Hello GRS community!

I wanted to thank you all for your kindness and generosity and share the results of our united efforts.

  • 3 weeks of non-stop baking

  • over 1500 macarons baked

  • over $3000 raised!!!

All this money is already transferred to support the Ukrainian Army and humanitarian aid for Ukrainians who were affected by the Russian attack.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your contributions and support!

If you are interested in continuing to support Ukraine, here are some Ukrainian-based organizations that have been working tirelessly supporting Ukraine.

Слава Україні! (Glory to Ukraine!)
