It's a wrap! Girls Soccer Season

Written by Alexa Wevers, Coach, Girls Soccer Team

In October, our GRS girls soccer teams (varsity and JV) finished out the 2025 season. One of the most intriguing parts of this program is the team makeup. We come from four different charter schools - Twin Cities Academy, Great River School, Math and Science Academy, and St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Arts. Blending players from many different skill levels and backgrounds would be difficult if it weren't for the players, the team culture, and the desire of each athlete to grow each day. Many players say that this is the best and most encouraging team they have played for. We, the coaches, think that speaks a lot about the culture the players create, and how they are consistently positive, encouraging, and challenging each other to grow. Every player shows up wanting to get 1% better every single day.

As for performance, the varsity team finished the season 14-2 with 86 goals scored and only 26 goals scored against. We truly believe this varsity season was a culmination of all the effort, consistency, and hard work our athletes have put in this year, this past summer, and in the past two seasons. We joined a new conference this year and got second in conference! A special shout out to captain, Onya Vandarcia, as she had the most assists on our team, was a strong consistent link between the defense and offense, and was nominated as an all conference award winner this season. Another special shout out to senior, Marianna ā€œMJā€ Joers, for rising to the challenge of playing keeper when our former keeper graduated. Our JV team was just as competitive with a record of 6-3. A special shout out to captains, Ilsa Bodensteiner and Melody Goerss, for creating a fun, competitive, and inviting team atmosphere. Their leadership and optimism were noticed and appreciated by our athletes and coaches this season! Another shout out to Abbey Melhus for leaving a positive impact on both JV and varsity with her competitive, highly motivated, and consistent presence, which led to many goals scored on both teams! Finally, we will miss senior, Adara Coates, next year and we appreciate her grit, tenacity, and drive throughout this season.

Both teams should be incredibly proud of their diligent work ethic, drive, and collaboration this seaso
